Building for Good

Watershed Row takes bold responsibility for its material, energy and water use. We account for how materials are made and how they get to us so that we’re doing right by people and places every step of the way.

In construction, we prioritized nontoxic materials manufactured responsibly in the western U.S. We opted out of plastics wherever possible, using alternatives like cork insulation and mineral paint.

Energy and water are not just consumed; they are respected and shared. The project contributes more solar energy to the grid than it uses. (This is a big deal for a building with an all-electric bakery!) It handles water as a wetland does — capturing, filtering & percolating, which creates habitat and recharges ground water.

Through resourceful construction and operations, Watershed Row aims to be good for people and our home place.

THE LIVING BUILDING CHALLENGE

Watershed Row has registered for the Living Building Challenge, a bold approach to construction that cuts waste and toxic materials while creating vibrant spaces to last for generations. Successful projects meet their energy needs onsite, use—and reuse–water wisely, and benefit occupants and neighbors alike.

Energy
All-electric and all-solar, including 280 panels on the roof!
Plants
The living wall supports over 200 tropical plants that help purify air and water inside the building.
Materials

WHY WATERSHED ?

Watershed Row nurtures connections and resilience within the Klamath River Watershed. A watershed is a natural boundary within which we can work to meet our basic needs and make community. Because it is defined by geological and ecological features — as opposed to arbitrary political lines — a watershed is a more realistic way to define our home place.

A delightful, enduring space that merges nature and the built environment
